THANKS FROM NEW ZEALAND “DESTINY A COMMON ONE ” /p a ) AUCKLAND. January 12. "I should like to take this opportunity of expressing the feelings which we in New Zealand have towards our new great allies, the United States, and also to express on behalf of the people of New Zealand and of all the peoples of the British Commonwealth the very deep appreciation which is felt for all that the people of the United States have done to help us in our hour of great need, said the Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, at the opening of the Musick Memorial hfs afternoon. "Now that the United States has been drawn into the actual conflict we know we can count on their support, and although we are small, we do occupy a positionofsome strategic importance in the Pacific. # “We stand by the United VJ the war to-day as we stand by our Mother Country, and we will £ive our utmost support to their cause, which is nur cause as well—the preservation of democratic freedom and civilisation All we ask is that our men should have Sufficient weapons t 9 meet an enemy on equal terms. Given those conditions our help is, I believe worth having, and we shall above all things ende“ln°^edticafinVge this memorial to Capprofound significance in the closer relationship of two peoples, Mr Fraser concluded. "It will serve to remind us that our destiny is a common one that our way of life stands the outcome of this war in which we are both engaged, and that we in New Zealand are as confident as the people of the United States of the success of the task to which we have set our hand."
