APPOINTMENTS IN FORCES
* CANTERBURY OFFICERS INCLUDED Among promotions and appointments of Canterbury officers in the armed forces notified in the latest Gazette are the following:— Navy Lieutenant-Commander Alexander David Boyle, R.N., is appointed to H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel II as naval officer in charge at Lyttelton. Lieutenant - Commander Richard Clive Elmer Harding, R.N. (retired), is appointed to H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel as recruiting staff officer. f Army Lieutenant-Colonel the Hon. Mr Justice E. H. Northcroft, D.5.0., V.D., relinquishes the appointment of district artillery officer, Southern Military District, and is appointed fortress area commander, Lyttelton. Major (acting Lieutenant-Colonel) A. R. Cockerell, D.5.0., N.Z.S.C., relinquishes the appointment of general staff officer, 2nd grade, Staff _ College, Palmerston North, and the acting rank of lieutenant-colonel, and is appointed general staff officer, 2nd grade, Southern Military District, Christchurch. Captain (temporary Major) E. E. Lloyd, N.Z.S.C., relinquishes the appointment of general staff officer, 2nd grade, Southern Military District, Christchurch, and is appointed staff officer, training, Burnham camp, vice Major A. J. Moore, N.Z.S.C., seconded to the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Lieutenant-Colonel R. C. Wickens, D.5.0., V.D., relinquishes the appointment of commandant, Addington camp, and is appointed area commander, Area No. 10. Christchurch. Lieutenant R. W. Borland, officer-in-charge, sick and wounded records, Headquarters, Southern Military District, Christchurch, is granted the temporary rank of captain while so employed. „ Captain H, T. Jennings, M.8., Ch.B., ,N.Z.M.C., is struck off the strength of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is posted to the temporary staff in the temporary rank of major, and is appointed officer commanding the medical corps training depot at Trentham. Second-Lieutenant G. W. Scott, 18th Company, National Military Reserve, Timaru, is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant. Lieutenant C. H. Williams, Wellington City Battalion, Home Guard, is appointed general staff officer, 3rd grade, Central District fortress area headquarters. Home Guard William Leonard Harrison is to be captain (temporary) and is posted to the Ashburton Battalion of the Homo Guard. The following are to be lieutenants (temporary) and are to be posted to the Ashburton Battalion; — Frederick Johnston Alexander, Herbert Rickett Hollis, Duncan Mcßae. The following. re to be captains (temporary) and are posted to the Rangiora Battalion of the Home Guard:—George Alexander McAlpine, William Biggs, Leonard John Stokes. The following are to be lieutenants (temporary) and are posted to the Rangiora Battalion;— Walter Cook Prosser, Lionel Bews Ord, William Macann, Robert Mclntyre, Gerald Craig Beattie, Francis James Farquhar, Harold Dean Greenwood, George Alexander McLean, Walter Stanley Wright. The following are to be captains (temporary) and are posted to the Methveh Battalion of the Home Guard: —Harold Edwin Wright, Ralph Coningsby Bean, Arthur Charley Gadd. The following are to be lieutenants (temporary) and are posted to the Methven Battalion: —Edward Robert Pettitt, David Campbell, Douglas Herbert Clement, Richard Geoffrey Gerard, Allan Robert Gourley, Oswald Edmonds Hooper, John James Mulligan, George Francis Mulligan, Clarence Charles Winn.
