National Savings
Last week 125 towns were successful in attaining their quota of national savings investments. This is a record. Ten new towns qualified, the most notable addition being Christchurch which, although within measurable distance of its quota on previous occasions, had not hitherto succeeded in reaching its goal. Other provincial centres which were successful last week were Wellington, Invercargill, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Wanganui, New Plymouth, Timaru, Gisborne, Nelson, Oamaru, Greymouth, Blenheim, and Westport. As additional towns fly their flags, interest in the national savings movement quickens. Towns are now vieing with each other as to how soon in the week they can succeed in attaining their quota. So far New Plymouth, Blenheim, Have* Jock, Taradale, Walton, Stratford, and AwakinoMokau appear to hold the record in attaining their weekly quota on Monday.' Other evidence of success is that the flags at some places have already had to undergo repairs owing to wear and tear through usage. .. ..
