LIMITATION ON HOLIDAYS
FACTORIES ON WAR PRODUCTION ANNOUNCEMENT BY MR FRASER P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 16. The limitation on holidays to be observed at the holiday season by irms engaged in the production of war supplies was announced to-night by ;he Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Eraser). Holidays will be restricted to Christmas Day and Boxing Day; but in certain cases firms will probably De required to work on Boxing Day. Vlr Fraser’s statement is as follows; — "To meet the existing emergency, md to provide the munitions and equipment essential to the defence of he country, the War Cabinet has deeded to issue instructions that all iactories and works engaged in the production of munitions and commodities required for the prosecution af the war and the defence of the country shall limit holidays to Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and shall •esume operations not later than Monlay, December 29. Certain works engaged in the production of vitally accessary military supplies may, and arobably will, be required to open on Boxing Day. “In this connexion I would like to tuote the inspiring example set by the management and staff of the Colonial Ammunition Company, who have responded to the urgent need of the country in this grave moment by agreeing to work every day except Christmas Day, during the holiday season.” The Prime Minister also announced :hat regulations were to be gazetted, on the recommendation of the Industrial Emergency Council, providing for the Dbservance of holidays prescribed in any act or industrial agreement to be Dostponed or payment made in lieu of he holiday.
