28 COUNTRIES AT WAR

(8.0.W.-U.P.A.) LONDON, Dec. 15. The declaration of war by Bulgaria against Britain and the United States is confirmed by Mr George Earle, United States Minister to Bulgaria, in a cablegram to the State Department from Sofia. The decision was taken under the Tripartite Axis Pact, which Bulgaria signed. This declaration brings the number of countries with which Britain is at war to seven. Counting the British Empire as a single unit, 28 countries are now at war. Germany is at war with 17 nations, Italy with 14, and Japan with 15. Ten Latin-American Statec have taken measures favourable to the Allied cause. The United States State Department has announced that it has received formal notification from its legation at Bucharest that Rumania has declared a state of war with the United States in accordance with obligations under the Tripartite Pact.
