TEMUKA SEAT
* ANOTHER NATIONAL PARTY NOMINATION
Following' representations from various parts of the electorate, Mr A. J. Davey, a farmer of Waitohi, Temuka, has agreed to allow his name to go forward in the ballot to select a National Party candidate for the Temuka electorate. Mr Davey is the immediate past president of the South Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union, and is a representative of the South Canterbury and North Otago district on the Dominion executive. He is also a director of the Midland Dairy Company, and a member of the Electoral Committee of the United Wheatgrowers, Ltd, A keen interest in public affairs has been taken by Mr Davey, who is a member of the Geraldine County Council and the Timaru Harbour Board. He is also a member of the South Canterbury Manpower Committee. He has acted on country school committees, and after consolidation with Temuka was a member of the Temuka District High School Committee for many years. As chairman of the Downlands Water Supply Investigation Committee, Mr Davey carried out a great deal of work in the initial stages of the scheme, which is giving a constant supply of water to farmers on the downlands of South Canterbury. Mr Davey is an elder of the Temuka Presbyterian Church. He has been superintendent of the Sunday school for the last 21 years, and he has taken a keen interest in youth work of the church. For many years he was president of the Temuka Presbyterian Croquet and Tennis Club and he still takes an active part in the administration of the club's affairs and in matches. Mr Davey is also a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Waitohi Soldiers’ Social Committee.
