PARTY FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN

. ♦ Saturday was a red-letter day for the 250 physically handicapped children who attended a Christmas party arranged by Mrs L. Robinson, manageress of the Winter Garden, on behalf of Messrs P. Burke and Company, Ltd. (proprietors), and staff, under the auspices of the New' Zealand Crippled Children Society, held at the Winter Garden. . Mr L. G. K. Steven, a vice-president of the society, presided, and Mr M. E. Lyons opened the party. A number of children arrived in their beds, brought by motor transport from the Christchurch Hospital, and children who could not go to the party —about 100 on the West Coast alonewili receive Christmas gifts by post. Father Christmas rode to the party on a white horse. He was accompanied by a clown, and distributed gifts from the Christmas tree. An entertaining programme included items by members of Mrs A. Ledsham’s concert party, members of the Centennial Harmonica Band, as well as various items given by about 20 childrcn.
