HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr Frank George, who had been chairman of the parks and gardens committee of the Domains Board, was passed at the monthly meeting of the- Canterbury Horticultural Society last evening. Mr J. R. Templin presided over the meeting. In a discussion of the rose show, Mr J. Poulsen, the judge, criticised the bad naming of some of the exhibits. It was decided to appoint a committee of jurors to attend to the correct naming of roses. Certificates of merit were awarded to the St. Martins-Opawa Garden Club for a display of cut flowers, and to Mr H. Williams for a display of lupins. Twenty-four Christmas parcels for Soldiers overseas have been collected and sent to headquarters by the people of Culverden. For the Lady Galway Guild 158 garments have been sent tp London.
