MAGISTRATES COURT
MONDAY (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) SENTENCE FOR CONVERSIONS George Robert Scott, labourer, aged 20, of Kaiapoi, was convicted on two charges of unlawfully converting motor-cars—one on October 18, valued at £4OO, the property of John Montgomery; and the other on November 13, valued at £250, the property of Henry Edward Field. Detective-Sergeant J. McClung said that Scott admitted the conversions. He had been in trouble for theft in 1934, and for conversions in 1937,1938, and 1939. He was at present on probation. The probation officer (Mr W. H. Darby) said he thought it inadvisable to send Scott back to a Borstal institution, where others might be influenced. Scott was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative. (Before Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M.' ORDERS MADE Orders for affiliation and for maintenance of 12s 6d a week were made against David Kerr Dowdle.
