FAMOUS GERMAN AIR ACE KILLED
SAID TO HAVE WON 115 COMBATS LONDON, November 23. Lieutenant-Colonel Werner Moelders, the famous 28-year-old German air ace, has been killed in a flying accident near Breslau, according to a message from Berlin. He was not piloting the aircraft. The Germans claimed that Moelders had won 115 air combats. He served in Spain with the Kondor Legion, in Poland. on the Western Front, and in Russia. His victories were said to include 14 British aircraft. He received the highest German award for gallantry, the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, with gold oak leaves. Moelders is to be given a State funeral, and his squadron will be named after him.
