NAVAL BASES BOMBED
DOCKS AT DUNKIRK ATTACKED RAIDS ON ENEMY AERODROMES (Received November 24, 11 p.m.) LONDON, November 24. British bombers last night attacked thcenemv naval bases at L’Orient and Brest, and the docks at Dunkirk. Aerodromes in France were attacked by aircraft of the Fighter Command during the night. The pilots were flying American-built* Havoc machines. One of the pilots machine-gunned an enemy aeroplane as it was going into an aerodrome to land. An Air Ministry communique this morning states that no machines are missing from these attacks, but one aeroplane of the Coastal Command is missing from patrol yesterday. Royal Air Force fighters were over northern France in daylight yesterday. At Calais barges were attacked and other targets elsewhere were machinegunned. Seven fighters are. missing, but the pilot of one is safe. Referring to these attacks, the aeronautical correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that Hurricane bombcarriers, which were used in the operation, carry a 5001b bomb load and take only a few minutes to load. The round trip to France and back occupied less than an hour. The bomb load does not appreciably reduce speed and firepower is unaffected. The “Hurrybombers” are capable of fighting when loaded with bombs. An official communique says that early last night there was slight enemy activity, mainly the south-west coast of England. A small number of persons was injured, and a few houses were slightly damaged. Two enemy aircraft were destroyed. There was nothing to report abput enemy air activity over Britain: during daylight yesterday.
