DUVAUCHELLE SHOW
GOOD LIGHT HORSE DISPLAY The popular gathering of the Peninsula horse show and Pastoral Association was held on the picturesque grounds at Duvauchelle on Saturday. The Peninsula countryside is now Clothed in its richest green, and visitors from other districts thoroughly enjoyed the trip over the hills. The Duvauchelle show, which does not cater for stud stock, is very much in the nature of a picnic gathering. One of its main features is the useful saddle horse, where the hilly country gives the light horse a special utility. The sky on Saturday was overcast most of the day, but rain held off. The “gate” was slightly less than that of last year. Stock Exhibits There was a display of light horses, mostly from the Peninsula, which would have done credit to the prominent provincial gatherings. Some of the rings had from 10 to 15 entries. Champion hack was shown by T. Masefield, in the 13-stone class. The horse, Jerry, was also first prize-taker in the ladies’ hack class. Another double winner was Mrs D. R. Curry’s Starky. The revival of the mounted rifle unit in the Peninsula drew an entry of 16 troop horses, and they made a brave display, the majority showing the possession of good blood and the necessary weight-carrying capacity for mounted work, W. B. McKay, and Lady Stewart’s entry took the two main awards. The best section of four drew six entries of well-trained units, Corporal J. T. Robinson’s section taking the award. Champion pony was Miss C. DampierCrossley’s Firegleam. The hunters’ classes drew entries from eight to 10, and some good displays. J. E. Thacker was the only exhibitor in fat cattle, showing well-bred and finished cattle. V. Craw swept the board in store cattle. There was a good showing of calves in the dairy section. J. R. White took the bulk of .the prizes in the Jersey cross classes, including both cow and bull championships for best dairy types on the ground.
