KIRWEE SHOW
; OUTSTANDING DISPLAY OF LIGHT HORSES
I - i One of the most successful of the minor : shows held In Canterbury this season was ■ that of the Courtenay Agricultural and ; Pastoral Association at Kirwee on Saturday. The entries were substantially larger than those of last year, the gate was considerably bigger, and the day was excellent. The show of stock was of a ■ high order in most sections, but particularly among the light horses, some of the ■ cattle, and the sheep. Competition in the sheep sections was ' confined to one or two breeders in several breeds, but in others, notably (the Southdowns, there was strong competition. The district contains some important flocks of the breed, and the show brought forward a good selection. Largely because of the excellent entry of Jerseys, the cattle figures were bigger than last year. The display of, the breed was highly creditable, especially among the ; younger stock, which is a good sign for the future. Though there were not quite as many exhibited as there were last year, the draught horse section was a good one. The light horses were exceptionally good, and district competitors found they had to contend with performers of the highest merit, who had taken major awards at the Metropolitan and other shows. The champion hack for instance, was Miss H. Westenra’s Echo, which annexed the championship at Christchurch. The pony sections were also very well filled and the general quality of the display was , high. i The awards were:—
