The Mayoress of Christchurch, Miss E. Couzins, left yesterday to spend a week at Woodbury, South Canterbury. Miss M. Clarke, formerly of Cashmere Hills, who has been staying with Mrs Alfred Sandston, Mount Pleasant, will leave to-morrow on the first stage of her journey to Hobart to visit her brother.Mrs C. D. Edmundson (Napier) is visiting her mother, Mrs W. Graham, Cambridge terrace. Miss Frances Gardner (Waimate) was a visitor to Christchurch for the reunion celebrations of the St. Margaret’s College Old Girls' Association. Mrs Robert Allan (Auckland), who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Cecil Wood, Armagh street west, has returned home. Mrs R. L. Withers, who has been visiting Kaikoura, has returned to Christchurch. Flying Officer and Mrs Arthur Hyams (Riccarton), who have been visiting Wellington, left on Saturday for Wanganui. Mrs Gilbert Archey (Auckland) is visiting her brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Lawrence Gee, Papanui j;oad. ■Mrs J. F. Willcox is visiting Kaikoura, and is staying with her daughter, Mrs F. S. Clinton Stevens, who has been spending a few months in Auckland, has returned to Christchurch, and is the guest of Mrs Herbert Stevens, “Clunber,” Opawa. Regret was expressed at the death of Mrs Kruse at the annual meeting of the Presbyterian Sunday School Teachers’ Union held recently. Miss E. Buckley (Leinster road) is visiting friends in Waimate. Sister Creed-Meredith, who has been Church Army sister in the Public Works Department camps of the Kaikoura County for more than four years, and who is leaving at the end of the year to be married, was presented with a gift by Mrs T. Mrs A. C. Barton (Fairlie), Mrs J. Manchester (Gore). Misses Dorothy Copeland (Chertsey), Mary Ager (Ranglora), and Shirley Oliver (Greymouth) were visitors to Christchurch for the St. Margaret’s College Old Girls’ reunion celebrations held during the week-end. An hour before the time fixed for the civic reception to the Rt. Hon. A. Duff Cooper and Lady Diana Duff Cooper on Saturday night, a big queue had formed outside the Civic Theatre, and among the most eager in the crowd were many women, as keen to see the famous daughter of the Duchess of Rutland as they were to see the visiting member. of the British Cabinet. When the honoured guests arrived, accompanied by Wing Commander Humphrey Bevan, they were escorted to the stage of the theatre by the Mayor, Mr E. H. Andrews, and the Mayoress, Miss E. Couzins. Lady Diana Duff Cooper, who was presented with a bouquet of carnations, wore a frock of pale pastel blue self-striped chiffon, made with bateau neckline and plain bodice, slightly pouched over a belt of sequins. On her shoulder were pink and red roses, and her short wrap was of white fur. Miss Margaret Stephenson, a missionary from the leper station at Fouabu, British Solomon, will leave this week on her return journey to Fouabu, after a short furlough spent with her mother, Mrs Stephenson, Warrington street. Miss Aileen Samuels, formerly of Ashburton, who has also been on furlough in New Zealand, will leave to-morrow night on her way to Lolowai, New Hebrides, where she will take charge of St. Luke’s Hospital. Miss Kathleen Hall, formerly of Auckland, is now on extended leave from Hochien, Northern China, and is at present engaged on deputation work in Christchurch, Later she intends to return to China to take up work with the National Red Cross Society. At the home of Lady Shirtcliffe, Wellington. last week, members of the women’s auxiliary of the Navy League met to say good-bye to Mrs H. W. L. Saunders, who will soon be returning to England after a few years’ residence in Wellington. In wishing Mrs Saunders ‘ godspeed, Lady Shirtcliffe said she had been an inspiration both to the Air Force Relations and to the Navy League.
