HITLER TO MEET PETAIN
Major Concessions Sought CONTROL OF BASES (Received November 23. 11 p.m.) LONDON. November 23. Germany, according to the Berne radio, is seeking major concessions from France. The radio said Hitler will meet Marshal Petain next week somewhere in France, and it is assumed that he will attempt to obtain control of French North Africa. Hitler wants. French warships and control of bases in French North and West Africa. In the event of General Sir Alan Cunningham’s,, offensive in the Western Desert gathering momentum he jnay ask that the Axis forces be allowed to seek sanctuary in Tunisia. Marshal Petain is busily trying to explain away the removal of General Weygand from the post of delegategeneral in French Africa. The marshal said that General Weygand had been appointed to ensure liaison between France and her African possessions, and to safeguard them against the effect of the blockade.
