UNITED TENNIS CLUB
ASSOCIATION GRANTS REAFFILIATION « DIFFICULTIES OVERCOME ” The United Bowling, Croquet, and Tennis Club, which recently cancelled its affiliation with the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, has applied for, and been granted, reaffiliation to the association. The club’s application was received and granted at a meeting of the association’s management committee last evening. Mr E. A. Lee, who presided, said it was very satisfactory to have the club back in the association. The tennis section of the club had been very loyal, and it would have been most regrettable if it had remained outside the association. Mr Lee reported that representatives of both bodies had met about 10 days ago, and as a result, any difficulties had been overcome. It was also reported at the meeting that it was not expected that there would now be sufficient demand to justify continuing the extended playing rights .which were arranged at Wilding Park to cater for players who would normally have gone to the United Club. Only one application to play at Wilding Park under the new arrangement was received. It was decided to hold the usual Christmas tournament, for which entries will close on December 8. The intermediate section, for players between the ages of 18 and 21 will be eliminated, as it is not expected that there will be sufficient support for it. The senior open and junior championship events are retained.
