WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
BUR WOOD Mrs A, Young presided at the third birthday party of the Burwood Women’s Institute and welcomed more than 100 members and friends. Mrs Morten, president of the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes, congratulated the Burwood members on their rapid progress and the ready sympathy with which they met any demands made upon them. Mrs Morten offered a short prayer.
Flowers were presented to Mrs Morten and to representatives from other institutes. Mrs Smythe, senior vice-president of the Burwood Institute, presented Mrs Young with a spray on behalf of the members. Mrs Collett, secretary, and Mrs. Freeman received similar sprays. The birthday cake, made by Mrs Green, was cut by-Mrs Morten. Afternoon tea was served by members -of the committee. The programme, arranged and presented by Mrs Rice, included items by the, following:—Mesdames Rawsoa and
Craze (duets), Miss Lilian (violin solo’s), Mrs Vile to ooolo ? 1 ® and a short play by members w.
