RUGBY, November ,20. 1 A fighter pilot who had an arm shot c off by a Messerschmitt cannon shell over Malta last March, has been ap- - pointed to lead a. famous Hurricane ‘ squadron in Britain. s He has returned to the front line of 2 the Fighter Command after showing 2 that -his flying .skill is not hampered by the loss of an arm. To prove this r he spent six months in Africa, flying the latest types of fighters. He put m more than 250 hours flying, and by the time he reached Britain was so used to flying with his artificial arm that j a medical board passed him as fit foi ’ operational duties. . - The squadron of which he has now 5 given /commandhas destroyed more < thap/ TOO enemy aircraft in 1 France. He himself has flowfj' between 50 and 60 different types of ajfccrgft.
