Rust Taken from Tug.—Samples of rust .from the bilges of the new Lyttelton ‘tug, obtained by Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P., and shown by him to the Harbour Board at its October meeting, were again referred to by Mr McCombs at a meeting of the board yesterday. Mr McCombs, who produced the samples as evidence of necessary work when the board -was discussing the dismissal of 11 employees, alleged yesterday that attempts had been made to find out which employee of the board had given him information. Saying that ne had recovered the rust himself, he added that it had been suggested that employees had given it to him. He wished to protest against the suggestion. It was perfectly new to him, said the chairman (Mr H. Holderness). Could Mr McCombs tell the board who had made the inquiries? Mr McCombs replied that he did not know, and the board passed to its next business.
