♦ MONDAY (Before Mr;H, A. Young, S.M.) MISCHIEF AND DRUNKENNESS Maurice Brown, labourer, aged 70, was convicted on two charges—drunkennness (a third statutory offence),. and. committing mischief by. breaking a ;glass door-pane valued at 155,, the property of Mary Pilling. On the first charge, he was fined 30s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, and was ordered to pay taxi fare. On -the second he was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon. ' within • 12 months, conditions being that he take ..out a prohibition order and pay . the cost of the pane. THEFT OF RUG ■ George Mason Elliott, aged 54. pleaded not guilty, to a charge of stealing at North Brighton on October 30 a'rug valued at £l, the property of Desmond, Staples. The evidence of a. constable called by Senior-Sergeant J. Bickerdike was. that the rug had been taken from Staples’s parked car and had later ,bedi found under Elliott’s bed.' Elliott had been under the influence of liquor. The Magistrate warned the accused that, since he had already been before the ; Court three or four times for petty thefts) probably arising from drinking too much, he would be sent away for a period of reformative detention if the trouble continued. On this occasion ;he would be given a chance by being convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, conditions being that he take out a prohibition order, pay expenses,’and return the-rug. :

MAINTENANCE CASES For failure to, pay • maintenance, Edwin Jubilee Adams ; was cpnvicted and; sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended;as long as 7s -6d a week is paid off ‘arrears (£3l ss) in addition to current maintenance. • For a similar offence, - lan Mervyn Alexander was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended as long as 2s 6d a week ■is paid off arrears (£79. 8s 8d) in addition to current maintenance., ’ ORDERS MADE Allan Cameron Crawford , was ordered to pay 7s 6d a week maintenance in respect of his child. Reginald Claude Reader was; ordered to pay 25s a week maintenance for his wife. ;
