TROTTING NOTES Acceptances Postponed At a meeting of thie committee of the New Zealand, Metropolitan Trotting Club yesterday It was decided lo postpone the taking of acceptances for next Tuesday’s racing frotp 5 p.m. last evening to 5 p.m. to-day./ —8 Answer to Correspondent L.M.L., Darfleld:—Yes, Swagger Jack did 3min 24sec for a mile and a half when he ran third to Glenlee, 3mln 23 l-ssec, and Turret, 3min 24 2-ssec, in the Trial Handicap at Oamaru on Labour Day. Swagger Jack started ftom 12 yards behind in a 3mln 39sec class. Josedale Graitan The Auckland traiiier F. J. Smith will arrive from Auckland to-day with the New Zealand Cup candidate Josedale Grattan, Our Jewpl, and the trotter Josedale Dictator. They will be quartered at E. E. Edmonds’s stables at' New Brighton. At, Auckland on Saturday, josedale Grattan won the Wade Handicap at tht Owners’ and Trainers’ Association’s matinee meeting. From 48 yards'behind he did not go away smartly, taking 6sec to reach the starting point but, warming to his work, he finished under restraint to run the mile and a quarter in 2mln 48sec, the last mile in 2min 12sec, and the final half-mile in Imin 2sec. The .Cup candidate did his work impressively and it was a good trial although after the race the horse appeared a bit sore. Smith stated this was a tes suit of Josedale Grattan’s mix-up, with Uenuku at Epsom last week, but he did not look upon the ailment as serious or likely to affect his Cup prospects, Driver for Bayard The Auckland reinsman.G. G. Smith, will drive Bayard in his engagements at Addington, Taxation As a result of the Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting the Government will receive in taxation the sum of 10,083 0s Id, made up as follows: Totalisator duty, £5286 18s; dividend tax, £4625 6s; stakes tax, £47 19s; amusement tax, £122 ITis Id. A Popular Move The postponement of acceptances for the opening day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Club’s meeting is a decision that will be appreciated by owners of horses engaged. Many trainers had horses racing at the Invercargill. and Wellington meetings on Saturday, and a number would , not have returned yesterday in time to complete arrangements. The postponement is no inconvenience to anyone for the opening of the meeting is still a week off. An Improver

Lady Carol’s win at Hutt Park on Saturday was well deserved, for though she has performed consistently without winning a great deal she has not been favoured with the best of fortune and may have been unlucky not to win at the last Wellington meeting. , Last year she did a fair amount of racing for she started 19 times. She is one of the most improved pacers in commission and should win again before many weeks have passed. Her trainer, R. Motz, does not race a big team but with Sports Review, who won the mile saddle race at Addington in August and Lady Carol he has rewarded followers of bis stable with two substantial dividends during the present season. ’ '
