NEW RETURNED SOLDIERS
♦ WOKE OF ASSOCIATION Suggestions for representation of returned soldiers of the present war on executive committees of local Returned Soldiers’ Associations were set out in a circular from Dominion headquarters considered by the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening. The main suggestion was that one member of each of the present executive committees should retire and allow a, returned man of the present war to be appointed in his place. Mr H. W. Wilkinson said the constitution of the Christchurch association provided that when a member of the executive retired his place must be filled by the man highest on the list of unsuccessful candidates at the annual election. This meant that the Dominion headquarters’ proposal could not be adopted in Christchurch without an alteration of the constitution. A further suggestion was that meetings of returned men of the present war should be held and discussion's of matters affecting their intei’est held with them. On the motion of Mr C. Miln it was decided to hold an evening gathering in November at which members of the executive could get to know the new returned men.
