Show Day, on Friday of next week, will be observed as a holiday by most shops in the city and North Canterbury district. According to advice received from the Canterbury Employers’ Association yesterday, the holiday will be observed by all shops covered by the Retail Shop Assistants’ Award (drapers, mercers, stationers, for example), and by grocers’ and butchers’ shops In the case of the first two, general retail- and grocers’ shops, late night will be observed on Thursday next week, and the Show Day holiday wilt be observed in place of the Anniversary Day holiday. Butchers, whose award is local and whose normal procedure is to observe Show Day as a holiday, will close at 5 p.m. as usual on Thursday night.
