RAIDS BY POLICE

MATERIAL SEIZED AT WHIPPET RACES Police raids were made on Saturday at two whippet race meetings—one at Woolston and one at New Brighton. There were big attendances of the public at the times of the raids, which were concerned with alleged betting activities. No arrests were made, but a quantity of material was taken by the police, including, it is alleged, a miniature totalisator. Names of individuals were also taken by the police. Whippet racing at the week-ends has been growing in popularity in the city for some years, with big entries and good attendances at most raeetings.
