Messrs W. S. N. Rennie (Wanganui), immediate past president, and A. H. Yarrow (Manaia, Taranaki), will arrive from the north by the steamer express this morning to attend a special conference of the baking industry and a meeting of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Master Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Association. Captain W. E. Munday, N.T.S., has been appointed General Staff Officer 3 (Signals) of the Southern Military District. He will act m that capacity in addition to carrying out his training duties at Burnham mobilisation camp. Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., will retire early next month. Before he presided for the last time at the Marton Magistrate’s Court he was honoured by Marton lawyers, justices of the peace, and members of the Police Force. Mr L. D. Mclver, head of the commercial department of the King Edward Technical College, and lecturer in auditing at the University of Otago, was last night chosen as the. National Party’s candidate for Dunedin North. He is a returned soldier, and was born in Gore in 1898. —P.A. Mr H. S. Elliott, secretary of the Hawera Fire Board for more than 30 years, has resigned his position owing to ill-health.
