HEALTHCOTE DRAINS
Sir,—With reference to Mr Scarffs remarks in your paper on the last two: days I cannot- understand how he shows so little concern lor the market gardeners and dairymen, in the Heathcote district -Did rhe inspect- the Scruttons road, Horotane’Valley, and Heathcote Valley drains? Also, his statements that'the situation was “not bad at all," and there was" no need to worry, are incorrect, Did he realise this flood was probably the worst for the last 20 years, and dairymen have been unable to put the cows tout in the paddocks. and- on Port Hills- road the water, was up.:to theihouses. If this gives no call for worry he should close 1 up yet. another flood-gate, as wps done previously,;and give. us something: to worry about—Yours, .etc., WHY WORRY? ; August 19.* 1941.....
