EXTRA PAYMENT FOR CHEESE
BOARD MEMBER’S PROPOSITION
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, August 22. “If the delegates to the Dairy Board’s annual conference next month do not press for the payment to supEliers of the extra price paid this year y the British Government for cheese from New Zealand, they will be letting the industry down,” declared Mr John Dunlop, South Island member of the board, when addressing a meeting of the Southland Dairy Factor: representatives to-day. M r Dunlop said it was known that the Australian Government was receiving 5s 9d per cwt. sterling extra from the British Government for cheese sold to Britain this year, and it was expected that New Zealand would receive the same payment. This would mean that the New Zealand Government would receive rather more than £1,000,000 extra during the season. It was believed that the Government proposed to distribute this money in subsidies towards the Cost of change-over to cheese by a number of North Island butter factories, and several other dairying subsidies. The delegates to the conference must do their utmost to secure for the‘suppliers the extra payment from Great Britain, or as much of it as they could;
