DIFFICULTIES OF N.Z. MIL LS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 20. Addressing the annual meeting of (he Wellington 'Woollen Manufacturing Company, the chairman (Mr- W. H. f. Barber), referring to the shortage of yarn for home knitting, said the m>H had made as much, as possible without slacking on military orders, and actually the turnover, for domestic Vvool was two and a half-times greater than in 1040. . There were now eight mills supplying- the Defence Purchase Board with (0,4001b pf knitting wool a month, he Said. This was allocated by the National Patriotic Committees to women knitting for the Army, Navy, qnd Air Force. It would be possible in normal times for New Zealand mills to cover the quantity of wool formerly imported for domestic use, but Government prders for uniform cloth and necessary civilian requirements had to take precedence. Pointing out thp dihipulty already experienced In manning mills, Mr Barber spouted }hp idea that 24 hours a h j a y in mitts was possible.
