Chaplain Major J. Hiddlestone, formerly Baptist minister at Epsom, who remained behind in Crete with wounded soldiers, is believed to be a prisoner of war at Kokinia Hospital, near Athens. He is stated to, be in good health. The news was received by bis, wife in Auckland. Mr J. Curragh, president of the North Canterbury Threshing, Mill and Contractors’ Association, retired from office at the annual meeting yesterday. Tributes to his services to the association during his 40 years’ membership were paid by Messrs W. Hayes, R. Hampton, and W. J. Bowman. Mr Bowman (Sockburn) was elected president.
Mr W. L. King, president of the Canterbury Cricket Association, has announced his retirement after many years of active association with the management of the game. After a conference last evening of Canterbury Cricket Association representatives and sub-association delegates he entertained members. Mr R. H. North paid a tribute to the long and valued service Mr King had given to the sport and expressed the.hope that he would yet be persuaded to continue active association with the, management committee.
