TECHNICAL COLLEGE BOARD
— * — MINISTER TO BE APPROACHED ON REPRESENTATION
The Christchurch City Coucil’s. endeavour to secure direct representation on the Technical College Board of Governors , has again been thwarted by the conference of local body representatives which met recently to elect a representative. Members of i the council strongly expressed their dissatisfaction with the position at the meeting last evening and decided to make representations to the Minister for Education.
Cr. Lyons, reporting on the mefting of local body representatives, said that the City Council, over several years, had contributed £250 a year to the board, compared with £SO a year, »ometinss less, subscribed by all the other local bodies concerned, and it was not .too much to say that 85 per cent, of the pupils of the college came from the city. The council’s attempts to secure direct representation on the board had met with organised opposition. At the recent meeting, said Mr Lyons, there was some discussion of the position, and it was conceded by nearly all present that the City Council had a definite and genuine grievance.
. Nevertheless, as expected, the voting was seven for Mr Kitson and for Mr Manning one. If it. had been any other of us the voting would have been exactly the same,” said Cr. Lyons. He moved that the council approach the Minister with a request that the council’s representation on the board should be made a fair and reasonable one. ■ The motion was carried unanimously. -
