CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY
PRESENT ACTIVITIES
All units of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry are continuing in courses of out-of-camp work, and, at present, many members are at the Riccarton Racecourse, where they are either completing or extending their period of 12 weeks’ intensive training.
Instruction in the use of weapons is one of the main tasks of the Headquarters Squadron, which provides the specialists for the whole unit, and its members have a full programme in front of them. At present, all arms are being prepared for the different courses to be fired during the training year.
The Light Car Troop is training in many specialist courses, an'd its syllabus includes the following subjects: Topography, field sketching, preparation of reports and messages, scouting. and field craft. The sub-units parading at 7.30 next Thursday night will be:—Regimental H.Q., instructor, Sergeant S. E. Brooks; Signal Troop, instructor. Sergeant S. J. Maxwell: No. 4 (M.M.G.) Troop, instructor, Second-Lieutenant S. A. Tomkies. Classes for non-commissioned officers and men training for the posts of noncommissioned officers will continue under the supervision of Major G. W. Logan, E.D., the officer commanding Headquarters Squadron. Trooper W. E. Broms, of the Signal Troop, has recently returned from the Army School of Instruction, where he qualified in a course of signal training.
