Czechs Help War Effort
“The Germans are evidently running short of equipment, for everything is marked 1940 and 1941. Some of the shells are ‘duds,’ and some I saw opened contained nothing but sawdust, Some of them had a note which said: 'Good luck, England. 1941’—apparently the work of the Czechs,” wrote Sergeant Wesley Grqcott in a recent letter from Egypt to relatives at Invercargill. Bicycle and Swag Found Considerable mystery surrounds the circumstances in which a bicycle with a swag attached was found near Paerau a few days ago. The cycle was first noticed by a runholder on July 4, and on seeing it in the same place three days later he immediately' notified the police at Ranfurly. Inquiries have been made by \ the police, and. it appears that a man of about 40 years of age pushing a cycle was last seen in the vicinity about the end of April. Inquiries are being continued by the police.
