CONDITION OF WAIKUKU BEACH ROAD

The state of the road at the approach to Waikuku Beach constitutes a danger to motor traffic at night time, according to opinion expressed by members of the Rangiora County Council at a meeting yesterday. The danger was held to be more acute during fogs, when visibility near the beach was "often very poor. It was reported that precautionary measures had improved the position to a certain extent, but after some discussion it was decided to carry out further protective work. The council decided to light the side of the road at night by means of “cats eyes” or lanterns. It was stated that this would be only a temporary measure ,as the Public Works Department was now preparing a report on the necessary repairs to the highway, which was damaged during the last flood m the Ashley river. .
