WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION
CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH Three new members were welcomed at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers! Union, and Mrs Wornall presided over a good attendance. Mrs Morton gave a talk on vitamins, and Mrs Orchard arranged a display of cakes and biscuits made with wholemeal. Hostesses were Mesdames Atkinson, Chapman, and Appleyard. Results of the competitions were as follows:—Large bloom: Mrs Wornall 1, Mrs Meakin 2. Small bloom: Mrs Chapman 1, Mrs Mason 2. Sand sauce?.\ Mrs Mason ;. I, ... Miss Glucas -Apple:Jellyf. DANCE AT KIRWEE The committee of the Kirwee SubCentre of the Red Cross Society organised a dance, which was held in •the Kirwee Hall, and was most successful. The financial result was most satisfactory. Mrs F. Johnston (president) thanked all who had helped to make the dance successful. Music was played by Stewart’s Band, and Mr C. King was master of ceremonies.
SUMNER RED CROSS SUB-CENTRE
The Mayor (Mr J. E. Tait) presided over a well-attended meeting of the Sumner Sub-centre of the Red Cross held in the Town Hall recently, when resignations were received from Mr F. G. Vincent (treasurer), and Mr H. Fisher, these two members having an excessive amount of war work to cope with. The secretary, Mr F. W. J. Murdoch, was elected treasurer, the office to be held in conjunction with that of secretary. Mrs T. Newburgh, president of the Women’s Auxiliary, reported that.the recent function held in the Masonic Hall had brought in a sum of £7 10s for the Nurses’ Fund. The treasurer’s statement showed a credit balance of £2 Os 2d.
HORNBY SUB-CENTRE Mrs F. Teigue presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Hornby Sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. Members decided to' meet every Tuesday afternoon to make surgical dressings for the Christchurch Centre. It was reported: that the sum of £7, proceeds from a card party, had been paid to the Trained Nurses’ Fund, and that the sum of £2 5s 5d had been received from Mr and Mrs Moore, as a result of tennis parties they held at their home.
BOWLING CLUB The annual meeting of the Redcliffs Ladies’ Bowling Club was held in the pavilion on Tuesday, Mrs Truscott, president, presiding. The balancesheet showed a credit of £29 11s 4d. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs J. Thomas; vice-presi-dent, Mrs Heath; secretary-treasurer, Mrs Grafton; committee, Mesdames Cook, Logie, Olliver; match committee and selectors, Mesdames Cook, Logie, Thomas; delegate to Mrs Thomas.
