BOWLS

ANNUAL MEETING OF N.Z. ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT IN DUNEDIN NEXT YEAR (P.A.) DUNEDIN, June 26. When the annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Bowling Association commenced at Dunedin this morning, it was decided that the annual tourney would open at Dunedin on January 7. An Auckland remit that singles be played in sections of six, giving all five games on the first day, and thereafter on the two-life system, was carried. All unbeaten five-game winners are to qualify as two-llfers, and other section winners or ties and winners of four games to qualify as one-lifers. , It was decided to write to Sir Ivor Thomas, the Dominion’s representative on the International Bowling Board, requesting him to convey to bowlers and all other residents of the United Kingdom the deep sympathy of New Zealand bowlers in the sufferings they are now undergoing, and Warm congratulations on the magnificent stand they are making in the defence of the Homeland. * Supported by .a petition from the two centres, remits from Manawatu and Wanganui recommending an alteration in the rules to allow minor centres direct representation on the council were defeated after a long discussion. It was -agreed, however, that something be done in the matter, the Christchurch delegate suggesting a system of grouping smaller centres, each group being ensured representation. A further suggestion was made by Mr I. Sutherland (Auckland) that delegates from minor centres, of the South and North Islands attend the qnnual meeting alternately. It was finally agreed to postpone consideration* for 12 months', and in the meantime to ascertain and collate the opinions of various centres with a view to formulating a scheme satisfactory to bowlers in general throughout the Dominion. It was decided that the profits of the tournament be devoted to patriotic funds. In recognition of their aervices to bowling for 14 years, it was decided to present to Mr S. M. Stone (Wellington) gnd Mr H. B.
