Mrs W. Mackay and Mr J. S. Barnett have been appointed by the North Canterbury Hospital Board as its representatives on the Nurse Maude Association. Mr Robert English, American Consul in Wellington, and Mrs English, who have been spending a few days in Dunedin, left yesterday for Wanaka and Mount Cook. Captain Eric Sundstrum, N.Z.M.C., and Mrs Sundstrum, are the guests- of Mr C W. Sundstrum, Dunedin.. Mrs D. Reese (Cashmere Hills) went to Auckland to see her daughter, Miss Celia Reese, off to America on the Clipper on Saturday. Miss Reese will go to Canada, where her marriage to Flight Lieutenant Ernie Clark will take place. Mr A. Morrison. Superintendent of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, has given the General Service Corps the task of manning the whole of Christchurch with fire wardens. On Saturday afternoon, the first 200 will be given a talk on the organisation, and will be allotted to their blocks. More than 1000 volunteer women will be needed for this work!

Mrs W. G. Gray, who has been staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs C. F. Hartland, St. John street, Papanul, has left for Auckland to visit her husband’s parents, Mr and Mrs I. Gray. Miss Ursula Brocherie (Dunedin) is visiting her father, Mr F, Brocherie, Akaroa.

Mr and Mrs Hugh McDoiteld (Geraldine) have returned from a short visit to Mrs McDonald’s sister, Miss N. Haylock, Akaroa. Miss E. Haylock is now visiting Mrs McDonald. Mrs J. P. Lambert, of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, is the first woman to achieve the honour of being elected an official judge of the New Zealand Jdrsey Cattle Breeders’ Association. Mrs Lambert was nominated to the position by the Whangarei Jersey Cattle Club, whose request that her name should be included in the list of official judges was unanimously agreed to by the council of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association. As Miss Rosemary C. Johnson, Mrs Lambert is well known at Kiripaka. near Whangarei, where her parents, Mr and Mrs H. E. Johnson, have during the last 12 years built up two of the best known' studs in the Dominion—the Stanton studs for large white pigs and Jersey cattle. Last year, Mrs Lambert accepted a position as assistant to Dr. C. P. McMeekan in his animal husbandry research at Canterbury Agricultural College. Her marriage took place recently. Before leaving for service with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, Mr Lambert was a member of the Plant Research. Bureau of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
