The appointment of Mr H. Glendinning Cowell to act as Consul for Turkey at Auckland was gazetted last night.—Press Association.
Wing Commander E. G. Olson has relinquished his appointment as Air Force member for personnel, and member of the Air Board, according to the Gazette. Wing Commander S. Wallingford, who receives'the temporary appointment of group captain, has been appointed a member of the Air Board in Wing Commander Olson’s place.—Press Association. The election unopposed of Mr J. Dunlop, of Seaward Downs, Southland, as a member for the Southern Ward of the New Zealand Dairy Board was gazetted last night.—Press Association.' i
Corporal R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., formerly, Mayor of Christchurch, who has been in training at Burnham Camp, has now been promoted to the rank of sergeant, He is now Acting-Quartermaster-Sergeant, attached to F. Company, A Training Battalion. Mr F, L. Smith, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Suva, has been appointed by the Patriotic' Fund Board as its honorary commissioner with the New Zealand Forces in Fiji. Mr C. A. Jeffery, private secretary to. the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P, Fraser), who was injured in a recent motor accident in Egypt, is making splendid progress, and in a few weeks will be completely recovered, Mr A. M, Hollander was elected yesterday to succeed Dr. H. E. Field as chairman of the Boys’ Advisory Committee of the Christchurch Youth Centre. Mr W. T. Langley was elected deputychairman.
The Very Rev, J. Lawson Robinson, of Christchurch, is on a short visit to Invercargill. Mr A. W. Scott, advertising manager of the “Taranaki Daily News," has been appointed manager of the “Christchurch Star-Sun."
