STATE HOUSING RESERVE
MINISTER MEETS BOROUGH REPRESENTATIVES ;

■ No decision was reached yesterday, Mr f, George, deputy-Mayor of the borough, who led the council deputation; told the Minister, that the council envisaged , turning the reserve into a garden, which would beautify' the borough, and form an attractive entrance into the State settlement. ' Mr Armstrong said that his Idea 1 was thatfthe area, or most of it, should be used for building houses, and th?t a reserve somewhere else should be found for the borough in exchange. He sugg&ted thit houses built were would be of a good class. The Minister undertook to place the whole question before the heads of the department in Wellington and to give it early consideration. Mr Armstrong also undertook to have the taking over by the'borough of the high- pressure water supply in the area placed before the Cabinet immediately on his return to Wellington, Irrespectfve of the question of the reserve. While In the settlement, Mr Armstrong inspected the open creek which runs through part of the block. ’ He suggested that the Drainage Board and the department might co-operate in having it filled in. as it was at present unsightly, and possibly dangerous to children in the locality.
