ANNUAL MEETING HELD
The benefit that has accrued from the introduction of occupational therapy at the Cashmere Sanatoria was described by the matron; Miss A. Griffin at the annual meeting of the Sanatorium Service, Society, held last night at the home of Mrs H, A. Young. Cashmefe. Seventy-nine oatients had received instruction from Miss M. Lance, who, Miss Griffin said had done splendid work at the sanatoria. Basket-work, tray-making, pewter work, painting on glass, and other kinds of harfdwork had been undertaken, and besides being a source of great interest to the patients, it was also a help financially, as the goods found .a ready sale. It. was decided to write to Miss Lance congratulating her on the success of her classes and thanking her for the great interest she took in the patients. Sister K. Moloney, of the tuberculosis dispensary, described some phases of her work, which, she said, was partly educative and partly designed to combat tuberculosis in the patients own homes. „ „v, tt • The chairman. Mr P. H. Hams, reported on the activities of the ;society during the year and said that, because of social security benefits, fewer demands were now being made on the of the society. The balance- : sheet showed a satisfactory credit. It was decided to send a letter of ; thanks to Mr Jack Bradbury for his 'continued help in the screening of ■pictures regularly at the sanatorium. PATRIOTIC DANCE 1 Three enterprising young people, Miss A. Howarth, and Messrs N, H. Hookham and J. W. Wall, organised a successful patriotic dance, which they held at St. Luke’s Schoolroom last night in aid of the Spitfire Fund. Two lounges had been arranged at the back of the hall and supper was served upstairs. Pupils of Miss Peggy Holmes, and of Mr Sidney Hollis gave exhibition dances, and Chas. Wright’s orchestra played dance music, which included many war-time favourites.
PARTY AT BROADFIELD A large number of friends gathered at a social given in honour of Driver R. Dowdle, and held in the Broadfield schoolroom. Mr G. Simpson made a presentation to Driver Dowdle on behalf of Broadfield friends, and Mrs W. Wallace on behalf of the Broadfield Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society. Mr Ari Pitama gave a talk, and Mr R. O. Wheeler was master of ceremonies. . .
Music for dancing was played by Messrs C. Wallace and B. Crossen. Winners of the novelty dances were Mr J. Smith and Miss D. Nleman, Mr and Mrs L. Carpenter, and Mrs A, Hinton and partner. Items wefe given by Miss J. Simpson, the Misses Ashby, Messrs C. Mills, W. Millar, K. Cameron. Wallingford Chan. A play was presented by Mrs W. Shearer and Mr C. Mm*.
