RESTRICTIONS ON CAR LIGHTS

Transport Department’s Memorandum (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 11As a guide to mechanics, the Transport Department has prepared a memorandum showing how cars may be adjusted so that the drivers of them may comply with the Lighting Restrictions Emergency Regulations. The-types of light systems likely to be involved in the changes, and the means which may be adopted to adjust them with the least expenditure of time and money, are described. It is pointed out in the department’s communication that a car does not have to comply with the new regulations before it is granted a warrant of fitness. Provided that the lights on the vehicle comply with the Traffic Regulations, 1036, and amendments, or with the emergency requirements, a warrant should be issued; but motorists should be advised of their responsibilities iq areas where the restrictions apply. There are some cars that will never be driven into areas where the restrictions are to apply, and it would not be reasonable to compel their owners to alter them.
