BOWLS

■ ♦ CENTRE DISCUSSES REMITS Remits to be put before the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association were considered by the Christchurch Bowling Centre lest plght, and the policies to be adopted were discussed. An Auckland remit, the effect of which Is to give competitors In the singles championships five games on the first day, was opposed, and the delegates (Messrs A. Dickson and W. Efford) were recommended to vote against It at the meeting, on the motion of Mr A. Rolllnson. Several bowlers spoke, some In favour of letting competitors get five games Instead of two, if the first two are lost. Others took the view that a bowler who lost his first two and wanted three more was a glutton. , . After the motion had been carried, Mr L. B. Evans raised the question of whether recommendations should be made to delegates, "tying their hands.” The function of delegates was discussed for a while and more speakers favoured the practice of giving recommendations to delegates than opposed It. ; Mr W. D. Ramsay moved that there be a remit which would oblige clubs'to erect signs showing the dimensions of their greens to enable visiting bowlers to calculate the difference from the size of their own greens, but several speakers regarded this as a domestic matter, better left to local authorities, and the motion Wfis lost. Abolition - of the practice of warning a tournament player who breaks rules In delivering the bowl from the ,mat was suggested by Mr Evans. Players In other games had no warnings, he said, but were penalised Immediately they offended, and bowlers who stepped over the mat should be penalised the first time. The suggestion was discussed but no action was taken. ______
