GERMAN CLAIMS ON RUSSIA
Heavy Pressure Reported THREAT SEEN OF ARMED ACTION (Received June 9,' 7 p.m.) (U.P.A.) LONDON, June 8. The - “Daily Telegraph" says that Herr Hitler has been applying heavy pressure on Russia for some time, backed up by visible threats of military force. His claims, in the first place, are economic, and he is seeking a trade agreement so comprehensive that it would prove in practice very like the German exploitation of France, with a German administrative control on the spot. Military demands ’ cannot be excluded. The Germans are possibly envisaging the passage of troops through Kiev and Odessa. . x It is not considered that Russia is strong enough to stand up against a threat backed by the great majority of the German armed forces, which are far superior to anything Russia can put up. Russia’s obvious fear of Germany is shown by the fact that she has not offered Britain any specific concessions in exchange for British recognition of the annexation of the Baltic States and the unfreezing of their funds.
