HEAVY LOSSES OF STOCK
: —♦ CONDITIONS IN NORWAY AND DENMARK (8.0. W.) RUGBY, June.6.. It is apparent from the neutral press that a high price is being paid for German occupation, not only by human beings, but also by animals. A Norwegian newspaper states: “The lambing season in the Rogaland district is now over. There are many less lambs than usual, few twins, and a high mortality. There was a high mortality among sheep from cramp and other hunger illnesses. In the Jaeren district it was necessary to slaughter many cattle, and an appalling number of cases of cramp were reported. The Danish paper “Politiken” states: “In'several West Fyen districts cattle collapsed when put to graze, immediate slaughter being often necessary, brittleness through malnutrition having obviously caused many cases of broken legs.” Thick-skinned as the German in occupation is reported to be, even he may understand the lack of warmth on the part of peasants who are forced to witness the sufferings of the animals belonging to thgm.
