REVISION OF AWARD
♦ INCREASES TO WORKERS, A settlement was reached yesterday between the employers and the employees, when the award of the Canterbury wool, grain, hide, and manure stores’ employees came up for revision, by the granting to the Canterbury workers of certain concessions which have been allowed all other workers who are covered by the Dominion award. The alterations in the award were: (1) Saturday work to be allowed as long as four hours, at least, are paid for at ordinary rates; (2) casual workers to be granted an increase of one penny an hour, and should now receive 2s 6d an hour; (3) permanent hands to receive £4 15s a week instead of £4 12s 6d; (4) shift workers to be granted an increase of 5s a week, to £5. The assessors in the revision were —employers; Messrs R. C. Wickens, J. G. L. Vernon, G. N. Francis, and L. G. K. Steven; employees: Miss M. B, Howard, Messrs F. G. Beaumont, P. M. Butler (Wellington), and O. L. Simmance. The award, which came before the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr ss. Ritchie), will be in force for 12 months from April 21 of this year.
