WOMEN AS ARMY COOKS
SUGGESTION BY MR COATES (P.A.) DARGAVILLE, May 7. “After a good look around the military camps, I see no reason why the place of men cooks in dungarees should not be replaced by smartly attired, efficient, and pretty—if you like—women cooks in the training camps of the Dominion,” said the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, a member of the War Cabinet. "They would relieve men at present so engaged for other Army jobs and I hope that it will not be long before the change will be brought into effect. “This is only typical of the changes which we must effect if we are to maintain our manpower in the fighting forces,” he added. “We must overhaul our system so that every man will be available as and when required.” , Mr Coates emphasised the .need for co-operation by all sections of the community and for an inventory of manpower and materials with a view to greater war effort by the Dominion. -
