LITTLE RIVER DOMAIN BOARD

FIFTIETH ANNUAL MEETING The fiftieth annual meeting' of the Little Hiver Domain Board was held at Little .River on Saturday. The chairman (Mr W. H. Montgomery) E resided Two of the original memers of the board are still alive. They are the present chairman, Mr W. H. Montgomery, who has held that office, for many years, and Mr Birdling, who lives in the North Island. Mr Coop was the first chairman, and Mr T. Mealy secretary. Much progress had been made during- the last 50 years, said Mr Montgomery. Six acres of the Awa Iti Domain were bought from the Maoris, who, owned most of the flat land in Little River, in 1908. This area had proved too small for the requirements of the district, and in 1914 several men in the district had bought a further four acres adjoining the Awa Iti Domain and presented this area to the Domain Board. A quarter acre section of this last addition to the domain had been sold to the Wairewa County Council, 4 >Mr Montgomery said the district now had sufficient ground for , a recreation area for the district. A history of the board’s operations for the last 50 years had been and it should prove a valuable record in the future. .
