... NO INTENTION TO TAKE GIRLS FROM INDUSTRY
The statement that the National Service Department had never intended that • women and girls required in industry should be taken for the Women's Auxiliary Air Force has been made by the director (Mr- J. S. Hunter), in repl- to a recent request for clarification of the position by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. The president of the association (Mr A. M. Hollander) said that he considered- that the reply defined . the position. The letter, was received. “I > fully appreciate your comment on the position. and I shall write to the : Air Secretary explaining that it is most: undesirable ibaj girls who are at present required in industry should be accepted in the .Women’s Air Force Auxiliary,” Mr Hunter stated m ms letter/ , - : "You may be assured that; it was never , intended bv this .department thatVomen and girls should be abstracted from industry, unless they could.be spared without any inconvenience to a their, . employers.”
