ASHLEY RIVER PROTECTION
MINISTER TO HEAR DEPUTATION “If you pay a rate of 2d an acre in the Rangiora County to the. trust, the borough pays 5s an acre, or 30 times as much,” said the acting-chairman (Mr C. S. Ayers) at a meeting of the Ashley River Trust, in-reply-to-a-- proposal that a revision of the rating system ought to be made. .It was decided to telegraph to the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong), who had previously promised to inspect the protection works, asking him when he expected to be able to do so. Yesterday the secretary to the River Trust (Mr L. W. Harley) received a telegram from Mr Armstrong stating that he had arranged with the, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes. M.P., to meet the trust at its office on Monday, May 5, at 3 p.m., to hear representations and afterwards to inspect the works.
