THREE MONTHS’ GAOL
OBSTRUCTION OP POLICE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 30. Dealing with a case in which the defendant addressed a meeting in Manners /Street Reserve on behalf of the Christian Pacifist Society, the Magistrate,’ Mr J. H. Luxford, remarked: “One gets the impression that this is providing a sort-of funk ’hole for men liable to be called up in the ballot so that they can go to prison. It-is not' for me -to comment on that, but those who take part in these meetings,must go to prison.” Defendant was John Whitely Boal, aged 28, a carpenter, and the charges were wilfully, obstructing Superintendent Lopdell in the execution of his duty and conducting a meeting prohibited by? the superintendent under, the Public’Safety Emergency Regulations. Boal was convicted -on - the first charge and sentenced to; threejmonths’ gaol, and . was committed for trial’ bn the second.
