—+ — ■ PLUNKET SOCIETY’S COMPLAINT
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 9. A complaint about the lack of openair sleeping and playing accommodation for children in State houses was laid before a meeting of the Dominion council of the Plunket Society by the Pahiatua branch after a visit by • a member to a State housing area. Urging the importance of this matter, and that it be brought before the notice of the authorities, Mrs H. Paterson (Pahiatua) said that the trend of the day was to provide open-air schools. The same principle should be recognised in building houses. Miss Fitzgibbon. nursing adyiser to the council, said the point raised by the Pahiatua branch was one frequently commented on by Plunket nurses. Another speaker expressed the opinion that a veranda was preferable to a sunporch to secure the maximum amount of fresh air,' as often a socalled sunporch was merely Another room, which cut off direct access to air and sunlight from the rooms behind it. Dr. Helen Deem, medical adviser to the council, recommended that m approaching the authorities the society should submit a constructive plan. A sub-committee was appointed with power to act in the direction indicated. ■ 1
